Here, we introduce the producers of the first quarter Olenda (March – May 2022). We wanted to pay tribute to our land, so in our first months we will start with three EVOOs from the Co-munitat Valenciana.

Producer: Olis Cuquello

Territory: Castellón

Variety: Farga

Origin: Born in 2013 as an initiative of three young farmers to produce quality olive oil and ap-ply new techniques to traditional crops in the EVOO production process, with the aim of mar-keting it directly to consumers. Sustainability and the protection of the millenary architectural and arboreal heritage are the pillars of their work.

Location: It is located in La Jana, which is the place in the world with the highest density of identified millenary olive trees. These olive trees are of the “Farga” variety and most of them are located around the route of the Via Augusta.

Characteristics of the EVOO: This quarter they will be presenting the “Farga” variety, typical of Castellón. Farga olives are the oldest variety in the area and provide a very balanced oil be-tween sweet, bitter and spicy, with notes of apple, pear and banana, and a slight hint of al-mond, grass and flowers.

Producer: Oli Oli

Territory: Valencia

Variety: Frantoio

Origin: OliOli was born from one idea and many illusions. A desire to share, create, learn, grow, work, enjoy…, from something tangible, the land, and with an activity in which to participate throughout the whole process, from the cultivation and production of the product to its com-mercialisation. It is the first oil mill in the Valencian Community with an exclusively organic line.

Location: The olive grove is located within the area of influence of the Hoces del Cabriel Natu-ral Park, declared a UNESCO Natural Biosphere Reserve, 25 minutes from Requena. The olive grove and oil mill are located 850 metres above sea level with a continental climate but with the influence of the Mediterranean Sea in a calcareous and permeable soil, which favours the cultivation of the olive tree and the quality of the oil.

Characteristics of the EVOO: During this quarter we will be able to enjoy its single varietal Frantoio. A 100% Mediterranean olive tree from Tuscany in Italy, its aroma is intense green, reminiscent of artichoke, almond and apricot. It is a balanced oil with a bitter and peppery spiciness within the medium spice levels. It is a very persistent evoo, with notes of olive leaf, liquorice and rocket in the retronasal. Its sublime colour is excellent for any food pairing, allow-ing us to be creative with this organic EVOO.

Producer: Señoríos de Relleu

Territory: Alicante

Variety: “Coupage” from autochthonous varieties

Origin: Señoríos de Relleu is the result of the curiosity, experience and origin of Eliseo Quinta-nilla Almagro. He was born into a farming family in the countryside of Cartagena and very ear-ly on decided to dedicate himself to the world of pharmaceuticals, seeking to improve people’s well-being with purely natural means based on plants, which led him to research the benefi-cial health properties of oleuropein, present in the olive leaf, more than 15 years ago. This was the beginning of a close personal relationship with the olive grove, which was passed on with great enthusiasm to his youngest son Hugo throughout his youth.

Location: It was in the Teuladi farmhouse, built in 1918, just 10 km from the sea, in a valley of almond and holm oak trees, where the softness of the Mediterranean is combined with the strength of the continental mountain climate, that Eliseo and Hugo decided to create Señoríos de Relleu. The clay loam and calcareous soil that characterises this area was the perfect place to grow native varieties such as Manzanilla Villalonga, Blanqueta, Changlot Real, Alfafara or Genovesa, and to accompany them with the highly appreciated Arbequina.

Characteristics of the EVOO: It is a blend (coupage) of two indigenous varieties (Manzanilla Villalonga, Arbequina, Blanqueta, Changlot Real, Alfafara and Genovesa) which offer their own style characterised by an excellent fragrance, a fruity taste of freshly cut grass, together with a balance, stability and total harmony that allow complex pairings.
